It’s Not Just the Media

I had similar, more verbose thoughts recently here.

I think there are two related contributing factors that make the media’s specific strain of Trump Derangement Syndrome so virulent.

Since 1974, there has really been one place to go if you want to get rid of a politician who really doesn’t want to get with the program, and that’s to the media.  Since the resignation of Nixon and the publication of All the President’s Men, followed by the movie and that heartthrob Robert Redford taking down the White House, that’s been every journalist’s dream equivalent of a pony on Christmas morning.

And up to now, they’ve never gotten another sitting president.  Oh, sure, there was Gary Hart, but he was only a frontrunning candidate then, and the media bias had not yet sufficiently evolved to make him invulnerable. By 2012, they had tagged Mitt Romney is the guy with binders full of women locked in a cage on the roof of his car with a bunch of Russians, the biggest geopolitical threat of the new century (what an idiotic thing that was to say, amirite? Obama and the Dems sure knew better, didn’t they?)

Since the day in 2015 when he announced his candidacy, Donald Trump has been the low-hanging fruit that every journalist hopes to build a career on. So why can’t they get to him? I mean, look at the cartoon!  The man is crazy! Everyone knows it!

“ALL OF MY FRIENDS ARE JUMPING OFF THIS BRIDGE, MOTHER!! AND I’M GOING TO JUMP AS SOON AS IT’S MY TURN! KEEP MY AVOCADO TOAST WARM FOR MY RETURN. AND A CHAI LATTE AS WELL, UNLESS THERE’S PUMPKIN SPICE. ”

I mean, Trump MUST be insane, mustn’t he? Because if HE’S not crazy, then that must mean…

…and alternative too unspeakable to contemplate.

On the plus side – unlimited applesauce!

  1. I think some of them, mostly the marginal types that are perhaps Twitter-famous but not actually making a living from leftwing activism, genuinely hate Trump himself. Mostly for beating their preferred candidate. The actual journalists, I think secretly relish Trump for making their job (as they see it) so much easier.

The pundit-types that truly hate Trump, do so for proving them wrong. Wrong about almost literally every aspect of politics. That's every schmuck from Toobin to Kristol who just can't even with this right now, like a bunch of whiny teenage girls.

    1. "...secretly relish Trump for making their job (as they see it) so much easier." - you have to wonder what they see as their jobs, because all they seem to be doing is proving why we should never trust anything they say. Case in point: a couple of weeks ago I saw a "story" on WFXT about how MA drivers aren't following the "Move Over" law and slowing down or getting over a lane when there is a tow truck working on a disabled vehicle. The problem? Tow trucks aren't covered by the law - only police/fire/EMS is covered. This was an advocacy piece, disguised as a news story, and it didn't even have the details of any specific incident - the who, what, where, when of journalism - to make this a "news" story.

And I definitely agree that many of the pundits hate him because he is proving them wrong about everything, and doing so without abiding by their "dignified, never use words that offend," rules of fair play. He speaks his mind, most times without the filters that the DC (and other) elites have proscribed for all acceptable speech.

      1. The pundits and Twitter punditry experts also hate him because he's forcing them to clearly demonstrate what the Deplorables have always believed -- that the elites actually hate and despise them. Perhthaps none of them remember what happened to the French Aristocracy of the Bourbon 1750-1790 era. They, too despised the "lower classes" and quite probably hated them if they thought about them at all.

We have two major 'voices' in the MSM and Twitter punditry. One 'inherited' their position and the other "clawed their way up on the backs of others" and both are intensively protective of what they think they've "earned". Just look at some of the worst offenders. Chris Cuomo, Bill Kristol, Jonah Goldberg, Anyone at all paid by MSNBC. Most of them would be losers in any other walk of life.

  2. Speaking of bug krazy, Frisch the Oregonian Schmalfeldt is going bonkers over on her twitter. Looks like she freaked out major in her bail modification hearing.

      1. There was a woman in Bristol,
Who really was a hot, loaded pistol.
How this relates to the thread?
"Heck if I know!" the writer said.
But would you rather see the Doctor naked, or this girl?
