Super Bowl Open Thread

Will old man Peyton cement his legacy?

Will MVP Cam dab his way to victory?

Will the commercials be any good?

What’s on your tailgate spread tonight?

What the best football tailgate spread food item you ever had?

How long will it take before an average high school football player realizes that a ten year NFL career will reduce his lifespan by fifteen years, and that it’s a really bad bargain?

Or whatever else you want to talk about.

  1. Busy right now preparing chicken wings, sliders and a veggie tray with dip.

Hope everyone enjoys the game! And for the women who are not in an office betting pool, hope you enjoy the halftime show!

  2. We put a nice spread of ribs and chicken drumsticks on the Weber kettle. I just finished baking some bread, and our various friends are bringing all the sides. I have no idea if we're actually going to watch the game, but it was a great excuse to enjoy our back yard on the first nice day we've had a in a while.

I am going to go tune up my instruments, in case anyone wants to play for a while.

  3. I think the Broncos will dominate the game, defensively, and Manning won't choke more than slightly, but Newton will make some very impressive plays.

I will be in a digestive torpor before the game even starts. Fruit & veggie trays, BBQ wings, and potstickers, oh my. The house will be full of our kids and their SO's and at least one grandkid.

Took my girl to the early matinee of P&P&Z today, and we both loved it. It's the very unusual case of a good book made into a better movie. Many changes to the story, but none objectionable.

  4. Oh, brief and hysterical interlude - we have more people than anticipated, and four guys brought banjos!

Right now, a major raid on the grocery store is underway, executed by the former military members.

There may or may not be football, but it's already a great party!

    1. That's the best kind of Superbowl party, IMO. Makes me long for the days when my friend Carl would cook up every kind of protein possible in his smoker and I would make desert and appetizers and we would eat until we were in food comas and laugh uproariously at the commercials.

  5. Pulled pork with fried pepper and onions on the side. Veggie tray. Chips and dip. Cheese dredged in flour and egg then coated with crushed Doritos and deep fried. Haven't fried it up yet but can't wait to see how it comes out.

On the drink side, Bourbon and homemade beer and homemade wine.

  6. always nice to live in a cul-de-sac, Block Super Bowl Party started two hours ago.

    Go Broncos!!

    1. It was one of the better ones for sure. I appreciated her not trying to show boat like some of them do. I always want to murder those performers who do that, no matter what the sport they are singing for.

    2. That may turn out to be the highlight of the entire production. This one is a snoozer all the way around.

    3. It was so good, I'll admit, I had tears rolling down my cheeks about halfway through.

I love that song so much,

  7. I thought Gaga sang well and Blue Angels flyby was timed perfect!! Commercials are NOT impressing me, disappointing. Football Great so far!!!!

  8. My husband and I aren't football people, but today we finally had a chance to go out for our 22nd Anniversary dinner (only a month late). Superb Asian-fusion place and now I'm sitting at a Starbucks drinking a Chai latte with my husband while I finish metabolizing the last of a very nice rum drink so I can drive us home. Right now they have on a very odd but pleasant version of Take On Me remixed with Caribbean.

We are being threatened with another 4 to 8 inches of snow tomorrow. I suspect I may be woken at 5 by another robocall cancelling school.

    1. Went to an apiary class with my niece today. I'm not much interested in the game, but my stepdaughter wanted to watch it, so whatever.

  9. It is probably best that the NFL went away from using Roman Numerals for this Super Bowl (L) else we could have some difficult jokes ahead of us come #59 (LIX...)

    ...Just sayin'...

  10. OK, just got everyone out, barring a Navy guy and a Marine smoking cigars and drinking scotch in my back yard. I'm going to bed, and assuming that the Naval detachment will get the Marine headed in a homeward direction prior to the wife returning with a shotgun.

Great music, one of the best sessions I've sat in on in years.
