I bought one of those new “smart TVs” recently.

The other night I tried to watch the Democratic Presidential debate but the set kept switching to a show on the Nature Channel about lemmings running off cliffs…

  1. Republics, famously, commit suicide. Usually by discovering that it is possible to, as John Adams noted, vote themselves largesse from the public purse.

    We had a good run, but the writing has been all over the wall since Roosevelt's second term, at least, and never mind Lyndon Baneful Johnson's disastrous "Guns and Butter" administration.

    Were I able to amend the Constitution all on my own hook, I'd have a really simple addition: Charity is Charity, and shall never be construed as an entitlement, and most particularly, not a multi-generational entitlement. It wouldn't save us from our list for free stuff, but it might slow us down.

    1. Odd, the quote seems to be attributed to a number of folks -- Adams, Franklin, and Toqueville, among others.

      Doesn't make it wrong, though.

  2. I was in a hotel in a small mountain town for the previous one. I went to turn it on and I soon realized that the hotel had FNC and CNN, but no MSNBC. I'll be staying there again.
